OUR JOURNEY

2018-19 Phase III

Empresa enters our third year of Personalized Learning by creating learning expectations where teachers are more deliberately identifying learning targets to ensure students have a purpose for learning. We will create a greater emphasis on creativity and critical thinking through a hybrid learning model where standards-based lessons are more intertwined with each student's strengths, interests, and values. More classrooms will add flexible spaces and more classrooms will participate in student goal setting.

2017-18 Phase II

For 2017-18, two teachers each from grades three, four, and five dove deeper into our Personalized Learning Journey. As we journeyed into Personalized Learning, these six Lighthouse teachers were challenged to find the cross-section between Empresa's time-honored traditions of high student expectations infused with the performing arts, 21st century innovation and our aspiration to bring positive change to our school, our surrounding community, and our world.

We desired to develop a growth mindset for our students and ourselves as we continued on the journey toward personalized learning. Together we utilized the arts as a means of developing students' minds and personalities as they positively influence their community and world.

Phase II changes included completing the 1:1 technology ratio with iPads in transitional kindergarten, kindergarten, and first grade. More students participated in student-directed goal setting and student led conferences focusing on learning goals, strengths, interests, and values. Primary grades benefited from a reading intervention teacher.

2016-17 Phase 1

As Empresa began to dabble in the area of Personalized Learning, visible changes could be seen across the campus. Focusing on Learning Environments, outdoor learning spaces became available to all students. Flexible indoor spaces transformed the rooms of model classrooms. The ratio of technology to student became 1:1 in grades two through five as all students were assigned a Chromebook.
